May 15 Meeting: Platform Caucus Report & OTU Veto Referendum

5/7/2018

Comments

Picture
On May 15th, the House Republican Platform Caucus will be speaking to the Tulsa Republican Assembly about the achievements and developments in the Oklahoma legislature.
The Platform Caucus has grown during the Special Session and looks forward to even greater growth, as their principled leadership and consistent advocacy has gained them new members.
Oklahoma conservatives have watched the state legislature struggle through some difficult battles in the past few years. Our state's economic forecasters have provided little in the way of prior warning of the state recession which we were enduring since 2015. Only now have we been able to gauge the duration & severity of the financial pinch which hit all of Oklahoma.
The House Republican Platform Caucus was one of the calmer and more confident voices seeking to provide the legislature with principled leadership.

April Meeting: Meet Linda Murphy & The Area Conservative Candidates

4/13/2018

Comments

Picture
As the Tulsa Republican Assembly meeting date draws near, the state held the biennial filings for state offices. Among the more delightful news to many conservatives, is the news that there will be a conservative candidate for State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Oklahoma's most notable conservative voice in public education, Linda Murphy, has entered the race for State Superintendent for Public Instruction. She ran for the seat more than 20 years ago, in a bid to unseat Sandra Garrett. That election was perhaps the closest in the history of the office.

Murphy has long been engaged in state public policy matters for education.  Her conservative credentials are well documented and her passion for reform of the education process has been refreshing, especially in this time of resurgence of the socialists beating the drum for more infusions of confiscated family taxes, to prop up the outdated and highly inefficient systems in our public education bureaucracy.

Joy Hofmeister currently holds the seat as a Republican, after unseating a fellow Republican in 2014, using massive dark money funds associated with liberal entities.

Hofmeister was indicted 2 years ago for those campaign irregularities, but the indictment was rescinded months later, by the Democrat District Attorney.

Read Murphy's bio, at her education media site.
The April TARA meeting is Tuesday, April 17th, 6-8pm.

March 20th Meeting: Building Our Ballot

3/14/2018

Comments

Our March meeting will be a group task of building a ballot we can believe in.  We will discuss issues, incumbent performance, platform principles, and races to focus upon.
Our local, state, and national government prepares for very significant elections, it's time to review the performance of those who've held the sacred trust of leading, representing, and serving us.
Some are found worthy of further trust, and some are not. Some are leaving office and others are introducing themselves for our consideration.
More importantly, there are elections awaiting a candidate to step up.
We need all our members, friends, and allies to come join our discussion at the March meeting.

January Membership Drive & Legislative Resolution Vote

Expecting A Packed House

We want to encourage our membership to arrive plenty early on Tuesday night. There are several people planning to visit the group, because of the program planned for that night. But we want our members to have sufficient seating.  the Dinner Hour is 6pm, The Program is at 7pm.

Dues are due
Membership remains at $15 for individuals and $25 for household couples. You must be a registered Republican voter to maintain membership. Please attend to the membership dues prior to the 7pm program.
We will have informal discussion of a resolution during the dinner hour and entertain a motion following the opening ceremonies. The monthly program is highly anticipated so we will move to that agenda, promptly.
State Constitution Under Assault
The Oklahoma House Leadership has filed a bill which would seek to remove constitutional protections against a legislative revenue increase (they want to raise taxes without our consent). House Speaker Pro Temp, Harold Wright, filed the bill to weaken the constitutional protections  of Article 5, Section 33. Last Summer some of our members went to the Oklahoma Supreme Court to defeat their violations of this key reform of 1992.

They want to get their way and pass revenue increases (taxes, fees, etc.) without a simple majority vote of the people. The Constitution requires support of 75% of both chambers. House Leaders want to lower that percent to 60%.  This Tuesday we will entertain a motion of our 2018 membership, to declare & publish the following resolution.

The Proposed Resolution.
We the members of the Tulsa Area Republican Assembly strongly oppose the weakening of our state constitution regarding taxpayer protections. Revenue Increases through raising taxes, removing exemptions, or increasing fees; must be approved by the majority of the voters, or 75% of each of the 2 chambers of the legislature. The constitution works well, when the legislature partners with the voters.
We demand the legislature to trust the voters to make wise revenue decisions. This legislature has ignored & insulted the voters. We will support candidates who respect the voters' proper place in deciding revenue increase proposals. We believe the constitutional language intended to voters to generally be a part of that process.

Our notification policy:
This notice of a parliamentary action is our best attempt to inform the membership of upcoming official acts. We don't generally make take actions without notifying the membership. It's not a rule, but it's a courtesy.

January Meeting: the Medical Marijuana Vote

1/7/2018

Comments

Gov. Mary Fallin finally set the date for a state election regarding physicians' prescribing various Cannabis products for specific health disorders. Current law prevents any licensed physician from incorporating Marijuana products top treat brain disorders, serious mental illness, Cancer treatment side effects, or any other condition.
The election date is set for June 26th; the same date that political parties will hold elections of nearly 500 candidates for state & national office.
