![]() On May 15th, the House Republican Platform Caucus will be speaking to the Tulsa Republican Assembly about the achievements and developments in the Oklahoma legislature. The Platform Caucus has grown during the Special Session and looks forward to even greater growth, as their principled leadership and consistent advocacy has gained them new members. Oklahoma conservatives have watched the state legislature struggle through some difficult battles in the past few years. Our state's economic forecasters have provided little in the way of prior warning of the state recession which we were enduring since 2015. Only now have we been able to gauge the duration & severity of the financial pinch which hit all of Oklahoma. The House Republican Platform Caucus was one of the calmer and more confident voices seeking to provide the legislature with principled leadership. Among the more delightful news to many conservatives, is the news that there will be a conservative candidate for State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Oklahoma's most notable conservative voice in public education, Linda Murphy, has entered the race for State Superintendent for Public Instruction. She ran for the seat more than 20 years ago, in a bid to unseat Sandra Garrett. That election was perhaps the closest in the history of the office. Murphy has long been engaged in state public policy matters for education. Her conservative credentials are well documented and her passion for reform of the education process has been refreshing, especially in this time of resurgence of the socialists beating the drum for more infusions of confiscated family taxes, to prop up the outdated and highly inefficient systems in our public education bureaucracy. Joy Hofmeister currently holds the seat as a Republican, after unseating a fellow Republican in 2014, using massive dark money funds associated with liberal entities. Hofmeister was indicted 2 years ago for those campaign irregularities, but the indictment was rescinded months later, by the Democrat District Attorney. Read Murphy's bio, at her education media site. The April TARA meeting is Tuesday, April 17th, 6-8pm. Golden Corral 71st & Mingo Ave. Tulsa, OK
State Constitution Under Assault The Oklahoma House Leadership has filed a bill which would seek to remove constitutional protections against a legislative revenue increase (they want to raise taxes without our consent). House Speaker Pro Temp, Harold Wright, filed the bill to weaken the constitutional protections of Article 5, Section 33. Last Summer some of our members went to the Oklahoma Supreme Court to defeat their violations of this key reform of 1992. They want to get their way and pass revenue increases (taxes, fees, etc.) without a simple majority vote of the people. The Constitution requires support of 75% of both chambers. House Leaders want to lower that percent to 60%. This Tuesday we will entertain a motion of our 2018 membership, to declare & publish the following resolution. The Proposed Resolution. We the members of the Tulsa Area Republican Assembly strongly oppose the weakening of our state constitution regarding taxpayer protections. Revenue Increases through raising taxes, removing exemptions, or increasing fees; must be approved by the majority of the voters, or 75% of each of the 2 chambers of the legislature. The constitution works well, when the legislature partners with the voters. We demand the legislature to trust the voters to make wise revenue decisions. This legislature has ignored & insulted the voters. We will support candidates who respect the voters' proper place in deciding revenue increase proposals. We believe the constitutional language intended to voters to generally be a part of that process.
Our notification policy: This notice of a parliamentary action is our best attempt to inform the membership of upcoming official acts. We don't generally make take actions without notifying the membership. It's not a rule, but it's a courtesy.
